This piece marked a big shift for me and was the first step away from the line-heavy work I had been doing. I kept it simple and resisted the urge to keep adding. Some of my favorite paintings come from these kinds of firsts — trying a new direction, starting again after a break, or beginning something in a new place. I don’t know if it’s fear or confidence that drives it, but these pieces remind me that I can still do this, even when I’m not sure I can.
